Alise went to the kitchen to boil water, she didn’t believe in kettles you had on the counter. The proper boil of water made her so much more content. She placed some biscits on a plate as well as some scones. She went to the living room and set the plate down on the small coffee table. She sat down on the sofa, looking at him a moment before looking down to her hands. She fiddled with her wedding ring, Levi and Alise hadn’t married but he had proposed and she knew she had married him in her heart. “You’re still on the run?” She asked, breaking the silence. She wasn’t sure what to say to him, she wished she did though.
Takeshi listened to her move around the apartment, feeling himself grow more distant by the second. He wished he knew what to say, how to make this better.. But he didn’t. All he could think about is holding her.. Seeing her.. Just her.. Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t realize she had sat down behind him until he heard her speak. He nodded, turning and watching her carefully, the emotions shut out of his eyes.
"Yeah.. More so now than before.. I ran a few jobs for the cartel.. Got back into doing rouge jobs for cash.. I think I ran into one of your father’s guys a couple weeks back, and if so that means they know I’m alive and probably want to change that.." He shrugged, offering her a small smile that didn’t reach his eyes. He noticed the ring on her finger and looked down at his feet, speaking softly. "I’m sorry…"
"Yeah they do.." She yawned and rocked him gently. "I’d love to see her..I haven’t seen her since the wedding.." Alise leaned against Levi, exhausted. As Auggie quieted down she stroked his cheek, she’d have to get up soon and feed him so right now she was completely content with him being quiet and still. "Let’s give it a week, so we can figure out his sleeping pattern too…Ced will want to see him too.."
Levi nodded, smiling and watching their son settle down in her arms. He rubbed his eyes with one hand, letting out a soft sigh. “A week sounds good..” He let his eyes rest for a few moments, trying to reach out to Izzy to see where she was. No answer. That was normal for Izzy, but he hadn’t heard from her in too long.
"I’m worried about her.. I haven’t heard from her at all since wedding.." He spoke his worries quietly, not wanting to stir anything up and make Alise worry. But he know she would want to know what was going on in his head.
"I think he gets it from you.." She whispered. "Its okay. I heard him crying I was going to get up but you lept out of bed.." She laughed quietly and took August from Levi. "Hi there, sweetheart…" Alise rocked him gently, she wasn’t sure if he was hungry or just fussy. "He might just be hungry.." She mumbled, stroking his head gently and lovingly. "Oh Levi he’s so perfect…"
Levi smiled and shook his head slightly, watching her take him. “I was scared for a second that he was hurt.. I forget babies cry a lot.” He wrapped one arm around her, settling down comfortably and watching her, smiling more. “He is beyond perfect.. I’ll have to call Izzy in a few days, see where she’s at. She’ll want to see him as soon as you’re ready to have her here.”
"No its okay..if you would like to we can go inside." She said quietly and shook her. "Takeshi shh..stop..its okay…" She brushed her fingers along his jaw. "Come inside… I’ve put some tea on." Alise moved away from him and his touch. "You look like you could use a few cups of tea.." She smiled weakly but the idea of him coming into her home actually unsettled Alise. She didn’t want to invite him in but Levi would want it. She would turn away his brother because she felt sad about life..That was just selfish.
Once inside her home she locked the door and headed to the kitchen. “Sit down if you like, I’ll just be a moment.”
Takeshi felt his chest constrict as her fingers brushed over his jaw, but only a moment later she was moving away from him. He looked down at her and flinched on the inside, biting his lip and looking out over the city. He opened his mouth to protest, to say he would just go, probably to go try to get drunk at a bar, but she didn’t leave time for him to argue. He followed her inside, knowing she really didn’t want him to be, feeling like he was going to close in on himself again.
He nodded slightly at her words, barely seeing the room as he made his way around to the living room. He stood there at the window, looking out at the sky again, trying to think of anything he could say to get himself out of there. He didn’t want her to be uncomfortable. He knew she really loved Levi, not him.. He knew he looked so much like his brother that if it weren’t for the color of his eyes, no one would know it wasn’t Levi.. It killed him to know that.. It killed him to look in mirrors, so he didn’t. He knew it would kill Alise to have him here, and he didn’t want to put her through that.
